What is Free Coking Gas Cylinder Yojana
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) is a scheme launched by Government of India in 2016 to provide free LPG connections to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households. The scheme aims to empower women, protect their health and reduce indoor air pollution caused by traditional cooking fuels.
As of March 2024, over 10.27 crore PMUY beneficiaries have got free LPG connections. Government has approved release of additional 75 lakh connections under the scheme, taking the total target to 10.35 crore. The scheme provides financial assistance of Rs. 1600 for a connection, first LPG refill and stove free of cost.

- Government also gives assistance for gas refill later. This assistance can be of Rs 200 to Rs 450.

- Annual income of those living in villages should not be more than 1 lakh. In cities it should be 2 lakh.
- No one else in the family should be availing this scheme.

Apply in Free Cooking Gas Cylinder Yojana
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) is a government scheme where free LPG connections are given to women of Below Poverty Line (BPL) households. To apply online:
- Visit www.pmuy.gov.in .
- Click on Apply for New Ujjwala 2.0 Connection.
- Fill the online application form with your details like name, address, Aadhaar number, mobile number etc.
- Upload the required documents like Aadhaar card, BPL ration card etc.
- Submit the form.
Once the application is verified, LPG connection will be issued within 10-15 days. Scheme provides cash assistance of ₹2,200 for 14.2 kg cylinder or ₹1,300 for 5 kg cylinder along with first refill and stove free of cost. Eligible beneficiaries can also apply offline by submitting the documents to the nearest gas agency . Process and benefits are same for online and offline application.
