What is covered under PM Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)?
Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) covers all crops like cereals, oilseeds, pulses, cotton, sugarcane and horticultural crops. It covers pre-harvest and post-harvest losses due to natural calamities like droughts, floods, cyclones and unseasonal rains and losses due to pests and diseases. It also covers local natural calamities like landslides and hailstorms and losses due to pest infestation causing yield loss.
How is PMFBY different from earlier crop insurance schemes?
1. PMFBY has uniform premium rates of 2% for Kharif crops, 1.5% for Rabi crops and 5% for annual commercial/horticultural crops. The rest of the premium is borne by the central and state government.
